Momentum is the only recurring price pattern in the stock market: the stocks that have risen the most are the most likely to rise even further in the medium term. Most investors take the opposite approach. They sell stocks that have risen sharply and buy falling stocks in the hope that these will rise again. This gives investors the feeling that they are buying ‘cheaply’. This is false hope. A falling stock is falling for good reason.
